All the information you need about household waste collection in Paris.
Every day, 3,000 tonnes of waste are collected under the responsibility of the Paris City Council. The City is obligated to collect waste from households, i.e. private individuals.
Professionals and associations are responsible for their own waste disposal. They can use a service provider of their choice (City of Paris or private company). Paris' public household waste collection service is governed by a set of collection regulations, which you can download below. They set out the terms and conditions for the collection of household and similar waste in Paris.
In Paris, household and similar waste collection is organized by the Direction de la propreté et de l'eau (DPE). Municipal services provide collection in the 2nd, 5th, 6th, 8th, 9th, 12th, 14th, 16th, 17th and 20th arrondissements, while collection in the other arrondissements is handled by private companies.

There are three types of collection in Paris

Door-to-door collection at the foot of the building

  • Collection of household and similar waste: green or grey-lidded bins collected daily;
  • Glass collection: white-lidded bins collected once a week;
  • Collection of other recyclable waste (multi-materials, paper, cardboard, plastic packaging, etc.): yellow-lidded bins collected three times a week;
  • Food waste collection in the 2nd, 12th and 19th arrondissements: brown-lidded bins
With door-to-door collection being mechanized, waste must be placed in closed wheeled bins supplied by the City of Paris. These bins range in size from 120 to 750 liters. The number of bins allocated to each building is based on specific needs.

Voluntary collection

Collection of bulky items and hazardous waste
.

Individual Parisians who are unable to visit the Déchèteries-Espaces tri can request free removal of their bulky items (excluding rubble and cardboard), up to a limit of 3 m³, from the foot of their building, by making an appointment online.
After notification, bulky items can be dropped off in the morning between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 11th, 16th, 18th arrondissements. In the other arrondissements, drop-offs must be made between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. the previous day, for collection the following morning. The afternoon drop-off time slot is identical in all arrondissements: between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. for afternoon collection.

By appointment only. Contact by telephone: 01 40 30 77 34 / 01 40 30 77 49 or by e-mail: [dpe-stpp-fonc-risqueschimiques puis paris.fr après le signe @]qcr-fgcc-sbap-evfdhrfpuvzvdhrf@cnevf.se[dpe-stpp-fonc-risqueschimiques puis paris.fr après le signe @]

Other solutions for small and large items

The Déchèteries-Espaces tri (tips) are open all year round to private customers for small household appliances, electrical goods (which can also be returned to retailers) and rubble. Hazardous and toxic waste, as well as bulky items, can also be deposited in the Déchèteries-Espaces de tri and in the Trimobiles (certain hazardous waste and small bulky items).

Collection days and times in Paris

To minimize disruptions, particularly in terms of traffic and noise, collection schedules and routes are meticulously planned. Considerations include road width and seasonal variations in waste production by sector and day of the week.
Household waste (green or gray-lidded bins) is collected every day, half in the morning, between 6 a.m. and 12 p.m., and half in the evening, between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. Please note: there is no collection on May 1, Labour Day.
Yellow bins are collected on 3 different days a week, depending on where you live:
  • Collection on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays: sectors in RED on the map
  • Collection on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays: sectors in BLUE on the map
