At the end of a cul-de-sac, on the roof of a gymnasium, at the foot of a huge building: in Paris, tennis courts aren't always where you'd expect them to be. Here's a small selection of the most secret of them all.
Tennis Poliveau (5th arrondissement)
The most exclusive
It's one of the few courts in central Paris and the only one in the 5th arrondissement. Located on rue Poliveau, not far from the Saint-Marcel (line 5) and Censier-Daubenton (line 7) metro stations and the Gare d'Austerlitz (13th arrondissement), the court is semi-covered and has a synthetic surface. Perfect for playing in the rain!
Tennis Thiéré (11th)
The most secret
Who would have thought that, just a few hundred meters from the Place de la Bastille, a tennis court could be hidden away? It's in the discreet Passage Thiéré (11th arrondissement) that you'll find this court. Uncovered and with a porous concrete surface, it will delight players looking for a quiet, well-placed spot to exchange a few rallies.
Tennis La Faluère (12th)
The most bucolic
Located to the east of the Bois de Vincennes (12th arrondissement), these courts, although a little out of the way, are clearly worth a visit. But why? Because they are set in the exceptional surroundings of the largest wood in Paris (995 hectares, three times the size of Central Park), and players have a choice of 18 porous concrete courts and 3 synthetic ones.
Tennis Dunois (13th)
The most futuristic
There are some courts that leave no one indifferent, and those on rue Dunois (13th arrondissement) fall into this category. The reason? Their very special location on the roof of a gymnasium, surrounded by the tall residential towers so characteristic of the arrondissement. In the evening, the hundreds of illuminated windows of the neighboring buildings and the electric blue synthetic surface (called "mateflex") create an astonishing cocktail!
Tennis André-et-René-Mourlon (15th)
The best hidden
Getting to these courts is an experience. To hit a few balls, there are two solutions: enter via n°19 of the (underground) rue Gaston-de-Caillavet (15th) or take the wooden footbridge linking the Square Pablo-Casals (15th) to the sports complex. Once you've arrived at this site, built over a municipal swimming pool and encircled by the Front de Seine skyscrapers, all you have to do is choose between the three synthetic pitches!
Tennis de l'Atlantique (15th)
The most misunderstood
Yes, it's possible to play a game of tennis between two connections at Montparnasse station. But how? By reserving the rooftop courts! The latter is in fact an urban garden featuring five courts. Just make sure you don't miss your train!

Tennis Édouard-Pailleron (19th)
The most Roland-Garossien
The Édouard-Pailleron sports complex (19th arrondissement) is unique in Paris: it's the only one to offer clay tennis courts to the public. Completely renovated in 2021, this modern facility houses two courts covered by an elegant wooden framework. In short, it's the perfect place to play like Rafael Nadal at Roland-Garros!
Tennis Jandelle (19th)
The coolest
Earlier, we talked about the small Thiéré court (11th) and its relative confidentiality. Court Jandelle (19th) is in the same category. This unique court - with its synthetic surface - is nestled at the end of a charming cul-de-sac. A must for amateurs who want to play in a quiet, out-of-the-way spot…
